The Junior Penguins Experience
When you are looking for a program that will benefit your child with advancement in hockey and concentration on academics and social development, then the first and only place to look is the Pittsburgh Junior Penguins.
Being a member of the Junior Penguins, which is the only certified USA Junior Hockey program in and around the Pittsburgh area, means that you have made one of the elite Junior Programs in the US. Our primary focus is on the development of the student-athlete. We concentrate and work hard to advance the student athlete in hockey, but we focus on ALL of our players in the program. We have alumni playing in the professional ranks, NCAA DI & DIII and various other levels of hockey. We also have players who have moved onto successful personal careers and are major contributors to their communities. We are just as proud of being able to give them building blocks in their lives to be successful. We have several advisors on board to help you with all facets of life and making the decision that is best for you.
Junior hockey is the pinnacle of the skill development program of USA Hockey. It is available to male athletes who are 20-and-under as of the 31st day of December in the season of competition.
The program is available to high school students and graduates who seek a greater or more difficult challenge than that which might be available through their Prep School team, High school varsity or club team, or area Midget AAA teams. The principal purpose of this development program is to prepare the athlete for career advancement either in a collegiate or professional opportunity.
The Pittsburgh Junior Penguins advance players throughout the program to get them to the highest level of Junior hockey, JR A. We have EARNED trips to the USA Hockey Junior National Tournament eight times in the past ten seasons, winning two Bronze and two Silver Medals plus two Sportsmanship Awards and several finishes in the top four. We have iced teams at various stages of Jr hockey over the last decade from JR Minor Selects (Jr C) level as introduction into Junior Hockey, preparing our younger players for our Flagship Tier III Jr A program team.

The goal for our Flagship Jr A team team is to move the players. The younger, the better. We want our top players to use us as a stepping stone to elevate their game so they can move to the next level. We hold nobody back and want to see them move on. Different than some of the other programs, we're not interested in keeping our best players for another year to help us win more games, but instead, we want to see them get to the next level as early in their careers as possible to give them the best chance of advancement.
