NewsDate: Mar 01, 2010 Junior A Pens split with Cleveland
The Junior A Pens hosted one of the top teams in the CSHL, the Cleveland Lumberjacks this past weekend in Harmarville. The Pens came away with a split and locked up fourth place and home ice advantage for the first round of the CSHL Playoffs. The Junior A Pens came out flat in the first period of Saturdays game, but rebounded with a 3-1 victory. " Cleveland was all over us in the first and Collin LeMay (Goaltender) kept us in it. Shamus Finnerty scored a huge power play goal for us and that seemed to get us on track. I thought both Finnerty and Persichetti's lines gave us real good minutes and Mikael Lemieux played a good game in both ends of the rink, " said Coach Dorsey. The story on Sunday was a little different as the Penguins came out strong and then Cleveland scored on their first shot of the game, which was a breakaway. The Junior A Penguins were down 4-0 and 6-4, but rallied to tie it at six late in the game. The Lumberjacks prevailed and scored on their first shot in overtime to win 7-6. " We played a sloppy game defensively and that has lot to do with the fact they are a very good team and put a lot of pressure on the puck. I was very happy with the fact that we never quit and kept coming back. I thought Todd Thomas's line got us going by simply working hard and getting pucks to the net. Hopefully, we learned a valuable lesson today and that is in order to be successful as a team we need to be totally committed as a group defensively, " added Coach Dorsey. The Junior A Penguins travel on the road to Michigan for three games to finish out the regular season.
