Home Page![]() Jr Penguins Tiered Approach
The Jr Penguins provide area student athletes an opportunity to develop their skills through a tiered program that includes two Jr teams. Each of our teams is significant to the player interested in competing at a more challenging level but on a par with regard to size, strength and like skill. This approach ensures that each player is competing at the highest level of capability while still being challenged to take his game to the next level. With the Jr Penguins, each player maximizes his opportunity to accelerate his advancement through the Junior ranks. Our tiered approach begins with our Junior B (CHA) where the League places restrictions on the number of players a team can roster at the higher age levels. This affords the better younger Midget Minor and Midget Major age players a chance to compete at a Jr entry level where they play Jr rules (including 20-min periods) and travel like they will when they move on to College (by coach for all road events). Our Jr B players test their skills against competition throughout the northeast. Our CHA Premier Jr B competes in NY, VA, MD, NJ and against several teams in NH and Mass. This team is the feeder to our Flagship Jr A team. Our Jr A team compets at the highest level in this region that feed the Tier I (USHL) and Tier II Jr (NAHL) Leagues. These are the very best from the Pittsburgh area with a handful of out-of-town prospects eager to advance their hockey careers. They do this by competing in the Central States Hockey League where they get exposure throughout the Midwest where the NAHL and USHL programs compete. You can view news specific to each of our four Jr teams by clicking on the teams page tab to the left; Jr A NEWS and Jr B NEWS. |
Pens Release SchedulesThe Pittsburgh Jr Penguins released their schedule of practices and games for the season. All events are posted on the web under the Junior Team Schedules tab. Each team will play a competitive League schedule totaling 83 combined regular season games. Post season games will begin in March and the season will culminate with the Jr Nationals in April (in Rochester, MN for the Jr A’s and in Marlborough, MA for the Jr B’s). While the teams will be participating in their week-long camps in August with a couple ice practices weekly, they will increase the pace in early September with three full ice practices per week. In total, the 2 Jr teams will be on the ice over 600 hours this season and their practice to game ice is greater than any other team in the tri-state area offering them the best tool for development in the region; ICE TIME.
